PROGRAM OVERVIEW

1

Week 1:
Why?

In our opening week, we confront the question: why should churches engage in conversations about gender and sexuality? We explore the reasons behind reluctance, recognizing that silence in the face of injustice is itself a choice. By breaking the silence, we begin the journey toward creating spaces of true welcome and healing.

Week 4:
The Clobber Verses

Often, a handful of Bible verses are used to condemn LGBTQ+ people. This week, we take a thoughtful and scholarly look at these so-called "clobber verses," examining their context, original language, and how they’ve been misinterpreted. We seek to reclaim scripture as a source of love, not harm.

2

Week 2:
What’s in a Name?
Language matters. This week we discuss the importance of chosen names and pronouns as acts of identity and dignity. We'll also learn foundational LGBTQ+ vocabulary to better understand and honor the diverse experiences of our siblings in Christ, laying a respectful groundwork for engagement.

5

Week 5:
Religious Trauma

Many LGBTQ+ individuals have faced deep wounds from churches and religious institutions. In this session, we listen, learn, and reflect on the realities of religious trauma. Understanding this pain is essential to becoming a faith community that heals instead of harms.

3

Week 3:
Beyond the Binary

Gender expression is not a new concept, nor is it limited to two categories. This session dives into the rich tapestry of gender expression across cultures and throughout history, helping participants appreciate that diversity in gender has always existed—and that God’s creation is broader and more beautiful than we've been taught.

6

Week 6:
Turning Up the Volume

In our final week, we move from learning to action. How can we be visible, vocal allies for LGBTQ+ people in our churches and communities? We'll explore ways to advocate, affirm, and live out our faith OUT LOUD—boldly embodying God's inclusive love.

Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" - Matthew 22:37-39
